favor, por favor

3 February 2010
Guys, I need a favor.

(Please don’t roll your eyes when I haven’t even asked yet, especially when it’s very simple.)

Friends of mine in Philly, Rose and Carl, are in the running for a free $90,000 wedding. Actually, to say they are in the running is not total complete; they are among the top ten finalists. And to win the grand prize, they need as many votes as they can get.

I know, I know – it’s unbecoming to beg. I normally wouldn’t ask, but there are a few things that make this situation unique:

1) There were 400-something couples that started in this process. There are now, as I said, ten left. So they have a real shot to actually win this thing.

2) This isn’t a global or national competition. They are competing only against others couples in the Philadelphia area, none of whom are famous or former reality TV stars or anything like that. So they have a real shot to actually win this thing.

3) I’m not married; I don’t care to be, I think it’s a sham and usually a disaster (by the way, good luck, Rose and Carl!). But for those of you who are married, wouldn’t it have made the whole process much nicer and easier if someone came up to you and said, “You know what? We’re gonna take care of everything for you. And we have a $90,000 budget.” I mean, we’re not talking about $10,000 here. $90,000 can get you a HELL of an open bar.

4) I know Rose very well, and have known her since we were toddlers. Rose’s mom and my mom are practically best friends. These are good, genuine, salt of the earth people. I don’t like to throw around the word “deserving” a whole lot, but I can’t think of a whole lot more deserving people and families than those of Rose and Carl.

I know that we’re all very busy, and I know that’s it going to take at least a full minute to to register, vote, then bookmark the site and vote every day (you can vote once a day, hence the bookmarking). But again, this is not some pie-in-the-sky hope, some one-in-a-billion chance to hit the MegaMillions jackpot. They are among ten finalists. There’s a shit ton of you reading this right now. So with a little help from you, they have a real shot to actually win this thing.

This is the link to the page where you can vote for Rose and Carl. If for whatever reason you can’t do it, I understand. But if you can do it and do do it (do do!), ol’ Uncle Jason, Rose, Carl and about a whole bunch of their friends and family in South Philly will really, really appreciate it.

So please help us out if you have a minute.
